Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from his teammate by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
