House of worship Attacker Had Been Freed On Bail Following Rape Arrest, Law enforcement State
As stated by law enforcement, Jihad Al-Shamie had been taken into custody under investigation of rape and had been released under conditional release at the time he carried out a deadly knife and car attack targeting a Greater Manchester Jewish temple.
Adrian Daulby and another individual lost their lives in the attack on Thursday, while three people are still hospitalized.
Investigators suspect that the attacker may have been influenced by "radical religious views" and stated that three more people, between 18 and mid-40s, were detained on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of terrorist activities.
Condolences Offered to Deceased
The following day, relatives of the deceased men expressed their grief to their family members, hailing them as heroes who died saving others.
Mr Daulby, 53 and Mr Cravitz, 66 died during the incident when the attacker drove a car against bystanders before stabbing people that morning.
Greater Manchester Police said Mr Daulby was hit by police gunfire as they fired at the attacker soon after the incident was reported.
Relatives Comments
Mr Daulby's family stated he "lost his life in the act of courage to protect people" and his final act "was one of profound courage and he will always be honored".
Mr Cravitz, a local resident, served as a protection officer at the religious building.
Honoring his memory, his loved ones expressed: "He was so kind, considerate and always wanted to chat and get to know people.
"He remained dedicated to his spouse, relatives and loved his meals. He will be deeply mourned by his wife, loved ones, companions and community."
Probe Initiated into Officer Response
An independent police watchdog announced it would investigate the employment of deadly weapons by firearms officers dealing with the attack, which occurred on Yom Kippur, the most sacred occasion in the Hebrew year.
Armed police inadvertently fatally shot Mr Daulby, while worshipper another individual was also injured by gunfire by officers resulting in major wounds.
The investigation will focus on the "events surrounding the deadly officer-involved shooting of the attacker", as well as "whether law enforcement may have caused or contributed to the demise of the individual later discovered with the fatal gunshot wound".
Assault Details Revealed
Counter terror police also released more information about what happened in the period leading to the assault at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue.
Through an announcement issued to the press on Friday, Mr Taylor said: "According to reports from eyewitness statements that a man was seen behaving strangely outside the synagogue prior to he was confronted by security and walked away".
During that moment, the situation was not reported to police. A short time after, "the individual returned in a car and initiated his violent assault," the official continued.
Investigators are seeking legal orders to extend the custody of all six people currently detained, he also said. On Thursday, Greater Manchester Police confirmed three other suspects - two men in their 30s and a woman in her sixties - had been taken into custody under suspicion of involvement and planning of acts of terrorism.
Eyewitness Accounts
The religious leader was leading prayers when his synagogue was assaulted and described witnessing "malice and hostility" as a man began "body-charging the doors, hurling large containers, attempting everything possible to get in".
Praising the quick-thinking of congregation members, he informed media outlets: "I saw true bravery, I have to say, and individuals who ran to help others instead of fleeing. It was astonishing."
The synagogue chairman, the temple's chairman of trustees recounted to journalists, he heard the attacker shouting "this is their punishment for killing our children", prior to "striking with his blade into the glass, trying to get through".
